Colorado Adoption Eligibility Requirements

Before filing an adoption petition in Colorado, both the petitioner and the child must meet specific eligibility criteria under state law. Here’s what Colorado requires:

Petitioner Age: A person petitioning to adopt must generally be at least 21 years old. Younger petitioners may proceed only with court approval.
Child’s Age: The child being adopted must generally be under 18. A person between 18 and 21 may be adopted with court approval.
